We are partners.

Together.

The counseling process is a partnership between you and your Next Step clinician to assist you with life goals. For counseling to be most effective, it is important that you take an active role in the process.

Counseling practices will be client-centered and involve holistic care including: psychoeducation related to realistic expectations of counseling and mental health concerns; tangible coping strategies addressed early on in the counseling process; processing of the emotional impact of client concerns, with a focus on expression and increased insight into individual’s emotional experience; cognitive coping strategies to encourage identifying maladaptive thinking patterns and developing cognitive coping skills; physical and mindfulness strategies to encourage managing the body’s normal response to stress and mental health challenges; advanced techniques to recover from abuse, loss, and other trauma. Counseling practice is based on a motivational interviewing foundation with a focus on cognitive behavioral techniques and interventions. Additionally, foundation theories also include strength-based/solution-focused strategies.
